September (1)
There are other signs of approaching autumn in the Reserve.

There is news about a dipping platform which is 'to be located between the planting of loosestrife and the delta formed by the Glenavon Sluice. It will be four metres along the bank and extend out into the lake 1.5 metres. There will be a wooden strip along the bank and a step down on to the actual platform. There
will be a guard rail around the edge'.

The approach of autumn and the end of the growing season means increased scope for clearance work.
The Council cut the grass in the hay meadows at the end of August.
The first of the autumn
working parties set to
work on the
5th of September.

Weeds were cleared
from the youngest
planting, much of the
laid hedge was
trimmed, some of
the shrubs
which are sprouting
alongside the lake
were cut back and
the ubiquitous bramble
was attacked.

The fallen ash branch still looms large in the lake but there are plans to remove it when the water level in the lake has been lowered to allow gabions  to be installed.
