A heavy gloom oppressive o'er the world,
December 2nd: Ice on the lake and frozen puddles in the field. The horses have gone.
December 4th: Despite cold weather and a discouraging forecast a well-attended working party took place until rain set in, fortunately after coffee.

A boarding party was assembled and a device was lowered to provide access to the island, which it did successfuly with only one mishap involving partial immersion. The island is to be cleared of scrub, so that it can be replanted with more wild-life friendly shrubs.
The island was partially cleared before it started to rain
