There is now a path behind the oak, providing a pleasanter alternative to the muddy track visible to the right.

A great deal of brushwood was cleared and dead branches and ivy removed.

Barrowloads of tree bark were shifted and spread.

A new path was established in the middle field to provide walkers with a pleasanter option than the present muddy track (see below).

14th January: There was a good turn-out for the first working party of the year.

Ian had produced a list of tasks, graded according to severity.

There was a light frost, enough to numb the fingers and remind us that January used to be a winter month.

Tree bark mulch has been barrowed a long way down into the middle field, defining and improving a path to the side of the field. Much remains to be done to protect the meadows from the impact of the reserve's increasing popularity, while at the same time improving conditions for visitors.
Coffe and biscuits were kindly provided as usual by Eileen and Brian Stonebridge.

Work continued across the reserve after the break.

The photo on the right shows the muddy track at the head of the middle field.
